In one of my favorite superhero spoof movies, Mystery Men, William H. Macy plays the character known as “The Shoveller” – here are some of his memorable lines:

“I shovel well. I shovel very well.”

“We've got a blind date with destiny...and it looks like she's ordered the lobster.”

“We struck down evil with the mighty sword of teamwork and the hammer of not bickering.”

Perhaps only that last quote contains a semblance of a relevant point (I admit, I often have no point, I consider it part of my charm).

Great post, as usual.

I have spoken with some people recently who believe that many organizations will phase out CIOs unless they can prove that they do more than "keep the lights on." It will be very interesting to see what new technologies will mean for the role of the CIO.

Will they evolve beyond their traditional roles?

Phil

Great stuff as always, Jill. I have spoken with a few people who have the same question as you do about the role of the CIO. If they don't evolve from merely providing basic services, then will they go the way of the dinosaurs?
